De La Salle High School Announces Walter Chun as Varsity Head Golf Coach
CONCORD, Calif. — August 26, 2026 — De La Salle High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Walter Chun as the new Varsity Head Golf Coach. Chun brings an exceptional combination of collegiate coaching experience, player development, academic leadership, and a deep understanding of the Bay Area golf community to the Spartan program.
Chun joins De La Salle after an accomplished career with the University of California atBerkeley Men's Golf program, where he served as Head Men's Golf Coach from 2016 through 2024, after previously serving as the program's Associate Head Coach from 2004 to 2016.
During his tenure at Cal, Chun helped establish one of the nation's premier collegiate golf programs. Under his leadership, the Golden Bears made multiple NCAA Championship appearances, including appearances in the NCAA Semifinals, and captured conference and regional championships. His teams produced numerous All-Americans and all-conference selections while consistently maintaining a strong commitment to academic achievement.
Chun's coaching accomplishments also include helping develop elite collegiate and professional-level talent. At Cal, he was instrumental in recruiting and developing players who went on to achieve national recognition, including multiple AJGA All-Americans and highly ranked recruits.
Following his time at Cal, Chun founded Coach Walter Consulting LLC, where he worked with junior golfers and their families on player development, college recruiting, NCAA rules, and the college golf recruiting process. He has worked with families and players throughout the United States as well as internationally.
Since January 2025, Chun has also served as Executive Director of the Uswing Golf Academy in Shenzhen, China, where he has worked with junior golfers, international golf organizations, college coaches, and families while helping develop young players both on and off the course.
Chun holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of California at Berkeley's Walter A. Haas School of Business and a Master of Arts from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Education.

Chun's appointment represents an exciting next chapter for De La Salle Golf. The Spartan program has established a tradition of excellence, competitiveness and character, and Chun will be charged with continuing that tradition while helping student-athletes reach their potential both on and off the golf course while at De La Salle and beyond.
