Drue Sanchez 2026 CIF State Golf Champion - LTGC Article

This article is from the Lone Tree Golf and Event Center about State Champion Drue Sanchez.

More information was requested for the details of Drew Sanchez's CIF Championship (truly a special occasion) more details as follows:

Drue Sanchez fired a 66 (-5) and delivered a championship-caliber performance at the 2026 CIF State Championship in San Gabriel Country Club last June 3rd, becoming the first Spartan golfer to win the State title individually and leading De La Salle HS to a runner-up finish at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Championships to cap the 2026 boy's high school golf season.

Drue battled the tough, narrow tracks of San Gabriel Country Club and started hot on hole 10 with -3 through 13 but trouble on 15 and 17 put him back to -1. He gave a solid performance on the back nine, opening with back-to-back birdies on 1 and 2.  Drue displayed intelligent golf on hole 4 (par 5) when his tee shot strayed left of the fairway and behind a tree. He regained control by setting himself up on the other fairway for a clear view to attack the pin, sticking a 5-footer for birdie. Back to back birdies on 6th and 7th holes would set him up with an uncontested -5 to win the individual State Championship title with a two-stroke margin. According to CIF, Drue is the first North Coast junior golfer to bring home the title for the North Coast Section in over a decade.

Drue's journey with First Tee began 13 years ago, tagging along with his older brother who played at the junior tournament series then.  His competitive spirit was sparked in the short 9-hole course (par 30) at Pleasanton Golf Center.  The moment he turned 6 years old, Coach Jill Womble (Lendl) recognized Drue's excitement to be part of the bigger kids and allowed him to participate in his first First Tee Tournament series. He was the shortest and maybe most serious in the bunch, hitting off the red tee. Drue is a student of the game, competing in various junior tournaments across the country.

Drue's deep connection with the First Tee of Contra Costa (FTCC) runs for nearly a decade. He volunteered as a junior coach at FTCC's Lone Tree Golf Course program during his free time in the summers. He supported the program through his "Chasing Stars" Project fundraiser. And more recently, Drue included FTCC on his choice of non-profit program to support through the American Junior Golf Association's (AJGA) Leadership Links (Drue Henry Sanchez - 2026 Leadership Links).

Here's a recent interview of Drue with the SCGA, as well. Something fun - "watch here".

And here's his "CIF interview", post tournament.
