The De La Salle Varsity Golf team continued its outstanding postseason run on Monday, claiming the 2026 CIF NCGA Boys Regional Championship and earning a spot in the CIF State Championship on June 3 at San Gabriel Country Club.
Facing challenging, windy conditions and a field featuring 12 of Northern California's top programs, the Spartans delivered a dominant performance, posting a team score of 351 (-9) to bring home the regional title.
Leading the way were sophomore Barron Beinke and junior Drue Sanchez, who put together one of the most memorable performances of the season. Both golfers fired spectacular rounds of 64 (-8), finishing tied atop the leaderboard before battling through a dramatic three-hole playoff to determine the individual medalist.
Beinke showcased an incredible finishing kick, recording seven birdies on the back nine to surge into contention. Sanchez matched him shot for shot throughout the day, using powerful drives and aggressive play to create eagle opportunities on both the par-4 10th and 16th holes.
The regional championship adds to an already impressive postseason résumé for the Spartans, who captured their sixth consecutive North Coast Section Championship earlier this spring. Throughout the season, De La Salle has demonstrated the depth, consistency, and resilience that have made the program one of the state's elite.
Now, the Spartans turn their attention to the biggest stage of the season. On Wednesday, De La Salle will travel to Southern California to compete in the CIF State Championship at San Gabriel Country Club, where the top teams from Northern and Southern California will battle for the state's ultimate prize.
With momentum on their side and multiple players performing at an elite level, the Spartans enter the state championship with confidence and an opportunity to cap off one of the most successful seasons in program history.
Good luck to Coach Leo Lopoz and the entire Spartan golf program as they compete for a CIF State Championship.
