Spartans Place Third at Ugly Eagles Relays
The De La Salle varsity track and field team turned in a strong performance Saturday at the Ugly Eagles Relays hosted by Clayton Valley Charter High School. Competing against a deep field of North Coast Section programs, the Spartans finished third overall in the team standings.
The relay-format invitational emphasizes team depth and versatility across both track and field events, and the Spartans delivered several standout varsity performances throughout the meet.
Junior Chase Young led the way on the track with a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 14.85 to capture the event title.
The Spartan sprint group also turned in an impressive showing in the relays. De La Salle's 4x100-meter relay team of Duece Jones-Drew, Damari Dean, Dylan Rogers, and Zian Crockett raced to first place in 41.52, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Rogers, Dean, Jones-Drew, and Crockett followed with a third-place finish in 3:34.48.
In distance events, the Spartans dominated the 4x800-meter relay, where Daniel Accardo, Michael Kirkham, Davis Miner, and Alex Pringle combined for a first-place finish in 8:41.82.
Individually, Michael Kirkham delivered a strong race in the 1600 meters, placing second overall with a personal-best time of 4:32.18.
The Spartans also picked up points in the field events, highlighted by Lelan Gueye, who finished second in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 33-4, while teammate Max Chan added a fourth-place finish in the same event.
The combination of strong relay performances, individual points on the track, and key contributions in the field helped propel the Spartans to their third-place team finish as the program continues to build momentum early in the 2026 season.
De La Salle will look to carry that momentum forward as the Spartans prepare for their upcoming competitions later this spring.
