Welcome Home Lou Cesario '82 - New Varsity Baseball Head Coach

CONCORD, Calif. — De La Salle High School is proud to announce the appointment of Lou Cesario, Class of 1982, as the new Head Coach of the Spartans Baseball Program. Coach Cesario succeeds Coach David Jeans who is retiring from an outstanding career in the classroom and baseball field after 25 years.  Coach Jeans concludes an exceptional fifteen year career with 330 wins, 7 league championships, 10 North Coast Section championships, and 3 NorCal championships.

A graduate of De La Salle High School's Class of 1982, Coach Cesario returns to his alma mater with an extensive background in athletics. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Health, Physical Education and Recreation and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education from Saint Mary's College of California. He has long been known as a respected leader in high school athletics, Coach Cesario brings more than three decades of coaching, athletic administration, and educational experience to De La Salle. Throughout his distinguished career, he has built a reputation for developing student-athletes, fostering championship-caliber programs, and exemplifying the values of leadership, integrity, and service.

Coach Cesario has served as Athletic Director at Amador Valley High School, where he was responsible for overseeing 25 interscholastic athletic programs and managing, evaluating, and mentoring more than 125 coaches annually. His leadership extended beyond athletics as he worked closely with parents, community organizations, and school stakeholders while overseeing budgets, facilities, scheduling, and league representation.

"Coach Cesario is an exceptional leader whose experience, character, and commitment to student-athletes make him the ideal person to lead our baseball program," said Vice President for Athletics Leo Lopoz. "As a proud De La Salle alumnus, he embodies the Lasallian mission and brings a deep commitment to faith, service, and the development of young men. His baseball coaching record speaks for itself, with decades of success, championship-caliber leadership, and a reputation for building programs that reflect excellence both on and off the field. We are thrilled to welcome him home to lead Spartan Baseball."

His coaching accomplishments are among the most distinguished in Northern California. During a coaching career spanning more than 30 years, he has accumulated nearly 500 career victories, captured multiple North Coast Section championships, and earned Coach of the Year honors on three occasions. In 2019, he was named CIF State Coach of the Year and was recognized as the North Coast Section Honor Coach in 2011.  He took over Division 2 Northgate High School in 2025 and led them to their first NCS championship in school history this season.

Additionally, he brings over 25 years of experience working with the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and the North Coast Section, along with 19 years of institutional knowledge within the East Bay Athletic League.

"I am honored to return to De La Salle and lead a program with such a rich tradition of excellence," said Cesario. "De La Salle played a significant role in shaping who I am today, and I look forward to working with our student-athletes, coaches, alumni, and families as we continue to build upon the proud legacy of Spartan Baseball."

De La Salle's baseball program has long been recognized as one of the premier programs in California, and the school is excited for the future under his leadership.
