De La Salle baseball continued its dominant spring run, capturing the prestigious National Classic championship in Southern California with a 6-3 win over Centennial-Corona at El Dorado High School.
The Spartans, reigning NCS and CIF NorCal Division I champions, improved to 9-3 on the season and remain unbeaten in games played on the field.Â
In tournament play, the Spartans were nearly untouchable. De La Salle did not allow a single run through its first three games, defeating Bishop Amat (6-0), Mountain Ridge (7-0), and Notre Dame-Sherman Oaks (1-0) to advance to the championship.
The title game followed a similar script. The Spartans jumped out early, building a 3-0 lead and extending it to 6-1 midway through the contest. Emmet Freeman led the offense with two RBIs and a run scored, while Sam Lakey, Ben Hayden, and Jacob Gray each contributed two hits.
On the mound, Cooper Barnes delivered a complete-game performance to secure the championship victory.
De La Salle returns to action on April 15 against Monte Vista, carrying strong momentum into the heart of the season.
