Spartans Keep Rolling, Win Ninth Straight

The Spartans overcame a first inning run by host California with back-to-back 2-run innings in the second and third on their way to their ninth straight win, a 7-1 decision over the Grizzlies.

Graham Schlicht, Jack (JT) Sydlik and Brandon Kleyman combined on a six-hitter with zero walks allowed.

Schlicht (7-0) won his seventh consecutive start with 5.1 strong innings and eight strikeouts. The first inning run by California was the first time Schlicht had allowed an earned run since March 20, a streak of 32.1 innings. It was the tenth time this season the Spartans have allowed one run or less in a game this season.

Offensively, Antonio Castro had the only two-hit game for the Spartans and also drove in three runs. Tyler Spangler, Niko Baumgartner, Jacob Gray and Brandon Vargas also drove in runs.

The Spartans (19-3) next host California on Friday at 5pm.
