Coach Collins - RIP

Golf DLS Communications

In Loving Memory of Coach Jim Collins

Dear De La Salle Community:

It is with deep sadness that I share the news that our Head Varsity Golf Coach, Jim Collins, has passed away. Coach Collins, who has been our Head Golf Coach since 2022, was more than a coach; Jim was a mentor, a steady presence, and had a keen eye toward improving our players' mental and physical ability. Through his quiet leadership, warm smile, and love of the game, Coach Collins formed young men as student-athletes and people of character. We hold Coach Collins' family in our prayers as they, and our golf team, mourn his passing.

Earlier this morning, we gathered our Golf program to inform them of Coach Collin's passing and to provide the support they need as they process and mourn this loss. We remind our community to reach out to the athletic department, counselors, or other trusted adults if they need a place to talk as they grieve.

His legacy will live on in the lives he shaped, the relationships he built, and in the team's two state, three NorCal, four North Coast Section, and four East Bay Athletic League championships under his leadership. But, more importantly, he is remembered through the people he loved most: his sons, Ryan and Sean, and his beloved grandchildren.

We entrust to God the good Coach Collins planted in our community, and ask that you join us in prayer for the repose of Coach Collin's soul and for comfort and peace for all who mourn his loss. Our own Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, said on his own deathbed something that we echo today: "I adore in all things the will of God in my regard."

May God welcome Coach Collins into eternal rest and grant strength to those who grieve. Let the perpetual light shine upon him.

In faith,

David J. Holquin
President
