Marcus Schroeder enters his fifth year as the head basketball coach for the Spartans. In his four years as the head coach, the De La Salle Basketball program has gone 97-26 and has been one of the best programs in Northern California. During his tenure, De La Salle has made four straight CIF Open Division brackets. This past season, the Spartans made their first Open Division NorCal Championship game since 2016. De La Salle has also competed in every NCS Open Championship game in the past 4 seasons. The Spartans broke through last year on their way to their first ever NCS Open Championship by defeating Salesian in the championship game.

During his time, Schroeder has also helped form the Christian Brothers Classic. This is a tournament dedicated to bringing Lasallian schools together throughout Northern California and the west coast. The tournament features basketball but much more than that, gives student-athletes an opportunity to have fellowship with other Lasallians, participate in service, and attend mass.

A 2006 graduate of De La Salle, Schroeder served as captain of the Spartans on the last state championship team the basketball program has won. That year, De La Salle defeated Clovis West in the Division 1 CIF State Championship game at Arco Arena in Sacramento. Schroeder went on to play his college basketball in the Ivy League at Princeton University where he started 90 games for the Tigers over the course of his career. After his playing career, Schroeder served 10 years on the coaching staff at Saint Mary’s College under Randy Bennett. The last six he served as an assistant coach and his last season as associate head coach.
