This is Associate Athletic Director Derricke Brown’s 23rd season coaching soccer in the De La Salle program and his 16th season as the Spartans head coach. Coach Brown’s all-time record as Spartans head coach is 247-70-47 for a .743 winning percentage.
The Spartans have won 14 North Coast Section championships and Coach Brown has been a part of nine of those, including five as head coach.
Brown and De La Salle finished 16-6-1 last season and finished third in the North Coast Section Open Division, advanced to the California Interscholastic Federation Northern California Division 2 semi-finals, and were the champions of the East Bay Athletic League.
Ryan Roy was the EBAL Defensive Player of the Year and will play in college at Willamette University. Preston Spalasso, Flynn Salyapongse, Ellis Toal and Garrett Paik were first team EBAL players and all but Spalasso will return for the 2026-2027.
The Spartans, who have won 8 of the last 17 NCS Division I titles, have advanced to the semifinals in 14 of the last 17 playoff seasons and been in the championship game 12 times in those 17 years.
Coach Brown, who has been De La Salle’s Associate Athletic Director since 2008, has 28 years of coaching experience, including being St. Joseph Notre Dame’s head soccer coach from 2001-2003.
Coach Brown graduated from Saint Mary’s College with a BA in Communications and has a USSF C Coaching License. He is happily married to his wife of 11 years Danielle and they have a future Spartan named Beckham who is five.
