Dear De La Salle Community,
Elizabeth and I both want to express our most sincere gratitude to all of you for your support of this year’s Laps for Life event on Saturday. It truly was a grace-filled event and we believe it was one of our largest turnouts ever (close to 300 people). This was our first time holding the event 100% outdoors (due to COVID precautions), and the first time that we had other high schools in the area play a part in the programming of the event (Clayton Valley Charter and Las Lomas). Everything turned out better than we expected and we couldn’t have done it without all of your support!
We would like to acknowledge a few individuals who played a particular role in the success of Laps for Life 2022. Although this is not an exhaustive list, it hopefully captures the extra special work of many of you:
· David Holquin, for setting the tone of the event well with your beautiful prayer
· Rich Davi, for taking such incredible pictures of the event (that can be seen here)
· Jorge Morales, for taking care of all of our AV needs (and even making more coffee for us as we needed it!)
· Chris Miller, for demonstrating such vulnerability in your talk
· Leo Lopoz, for making sure our scheduling of the event was able to take place on a busy Saturday at DLS
· Thomas Wickboldt and Meredith Barnidge, for rallying a huge group of Company kids out to the event
· Lauren Stevens and Chris Miller, for their leadership with the Bring Change to Mind Club, who will be taking the reins of this event next year
· Our DLS Rugby, Soccer, and Lacrosse coaches for motivating their boys to come and support the event
· All the faculty, staff, and administrators that passed out mental health support items in class, encouraged kids to buy wristbands all week, rehung our posters all over campus, and came out early on a Saturday morning to be part of the event
Our hope and prayer is that this event can continue to remind our students how loved they are, how seen they are, and how valuable they are. And, as our theme song “When We Stand Together” (which was played so well by senior Marco Stassi’s band) reminds us:
We must stand together
There's no giving in
Hand in hand forever
That's when we all win
Thank you for standing together on this, De La Salle!
Take care,
Andrew & Elizabeth
