Concord, Calif. (March 24, 2021) – De La Salle High School Vice President for Athletics, Leo Lopoz ’94, announced on Wednesday that Jonathan Clark ’04 has been named the school’s new Head Varsity Wrestling Coach. “Coach Clark brings tremendous passion and love for the sport of wrestling but more importantly he is a De La Salle alumni that is committed to the Lasallian mission,” said Lopoz.
Previously, Clark had been the head junior varsity coach and a varsity assistant at De La Salle, beginning in 2016. Clark also serves on the faculty at De La Salle in the Science Department. Prior to coming to De La Salle, he served on the wrestling staff at both Deer Valley High School in Antioch and Redwood High School in Larkspur.
“I am honored and eager to carry on De La Salle’s tradition of excellence as head coach,” said Clark. “I am confident that our Spartan wrestlers will continue their dominance under the guidance of our first-class coaching staff, who have wrestled and coached alongside each other for over two decades.”
Coach Clark received his master’s in Teaching from Ithaca College and a B.S. in Biological Studies from the University of California, Davis. Clark was a decorated student-athlete at UC Davis, where he competed in folkstyle and greco-roman style wrestling. He was a four-year letterman in wrestling at De La Salle and was a member of the school’s first NCS Team Championship and was blessed to be coached by legendary Coach Mark Halvorson. The program under Coach Halvorson captured 11 NCS Tournament Championships, 13 NCS Duals Championships, and countless CIF State placers, including two state champions.
Jonathan and his wife Tracy have a daughter Lucy (1).
