De La Salle Athletics is proud to recognize two outstanding leaders whose commitment to excellence, mentorship, and the Lasallian mission has made a lasting impact on our student-athletes. Head Football Coach Justin Alumbaugh has been named the 2025-2026 De La Salle Athletics Head Coach of the Year, while Baseball Pitching Coach Clayton Tanner has been named the 2025-2026 De La Salle Athletics Assistant Coach of the Year.
Coach Alumbaugh guided the Spartans to another remarkable season, leading the football program to its 33rd consecutive North Coast Section Championship and a second straight CIF Open Division State Championship appearance. The Spartans finished the year with a 12-1 record, earning signature victories over national power Lakeland (Florida) and California standouts Cathedral Catholic, Serra, and Pittsburg.
Now in his 13th season as head coach, Alumbaugh has compiled an outstanding 148-21 record while continuing the tradition of excellence that defines De La Salle Football. Before taking over the program, he spent 11 seasons as an assistant coach. A member of the Class of 1998, Coach Alumbaugh leads with a steadfast commitment to developing young men of character, always keeping the mission of De La Salle at the center of everything he does.
Coach Tanner has been named the 2025-2026 De La Salle Athletics Assistant Coach of the Year after six seasons as the Spartans' pitching coach. His expertise and leadership have played a vital role in one of the state's premier baseball programs, helping guide De La Salle to three NorCal Championships and four North Coast Section Championships over the past five seasons.
Beyond his success on the field, Tanner is widely respected for the relationships he builds with student-athletes and the example he sets each day. A proud member of the Class of 2006, he coaches with the values and traditions of De La Salle at the forefront. In addition to his role with the baseball program, Tanner recently completed his second year as the school's Director of Alumni and Family Engagement, continuing to strengthen connections throughout the De La Salle community.
These honors celebrate more than wins and championships—they recognize coaches who invest in the growth of young men and embody the values that make De La Salle Athletics special. Congratulations to Coach Justin Alumbaugh and Coach Clayton Tanner on this well-deserved recognition.
