DLS vs Livermore

Well the Spartan Varsity picked up their first league win on Thursday on a rare sunny day. I gave Super Senior Jeff Kubota the day off and also Super Sophomore Ben Beerniink. Although Ben did play an exhibition doubles match with Sophomore Aidan McNamara.

Senior Kyle Haley played his first match at #1 singles and played well. His serve was a big weapon and he’s improved his serve over the 4 years playing at DLS. His opponent was a crafty veteran player who was very consistent from the back court. He also through in some great drop shots from deep in the court. LIV 1,  DLS 0

Senior Tristan Clinton was playing in his Varsity match as a singles player. Kyle and Tristan have played a lot of doubles together so it was a different experience for Tristan. He started out slowly and his opponent was controlling a lot of the points. During the second set Tristan started getting his singles bearings and almost pulled out the second set.  LIV 2, DLS 0

Junior Co-Captain Shamal Perera played #3 singles and played a very steady game. His opponent had a huge serve and some very penetrating ground strokes. But consistency is the name of the game for Shamal. That consistency paid off in a big win to get the Spartans rolling. LIV 2, DLS 1

Sophomore Thomas Cumberlich was playing #6 singles and dominated his opponent. Thomas served well and his opponent was always on the defensive. Thomas prevailed in two quick sets. LIV 2. DLS 2

Sophomore Dimitri Kindy-Baillot played #6 singles and battled through a slow start. Then his ground strokes started landing deeper in the court and his serve was in full command. He totally dominated the second set. LIV 2, DLS 3

Junior Tony Reghini and Freshman Max Koerner played #1 Doubles and teamed up well together to defeat the #1 doubles team from Livermore. The Spartans depth was in full force. LIV 2, DLS 4.

At #2 doubles Sophomore Aidan McNamara was playing Super Sophomore Ben Beernink., Both Ben and Aidan were moving well together and putting away a lot of shots from the net. They had never played together before but it sure didn’t show. They tracked down any balls coming there way and totally dominated in quick two sets. LIV 2, DLS 5.

While all of the matches were completed Freshman Elliot Hawkins was still out on the Court battling at #4 singles. Elliot was cracking some great serves and finally ended up pulling out the match in a third set tie-breaker. LIV 2, DLS 6.

This week the Spartans have 3 matches. On Monday, they take on Foothill at Home, Tuesday Dougherty Valley away, and Thursday Cal High away.

Let’s hope we get the weather to cooperate.
